I stumbled across this gorgeous cottage on Owners Direct and what a wonderful find. We were 2 singletons travelling and this was perfect for us; a wonderful location, so peaceful and in a beautiful rustic setting, this was the ideal getaway and so reasonably priced. Jane, the owner, and her family could not have been more welcoming. There was a lovely bottle of wine on the table on arrival and Jane had even bought a few basics for us as she knew we'd be arriving late. The double bed was so comfortable, as was the sofa bed so we ended up effectively with 2 separate sleeping areas which was fab. The cottage was a lot bigger than I'd expected and so super-cute. The low-beams added to the atmosphere. I'm 5'7'' and I could get under the lowest one without any problem so don't be put off by that, besides it added to the rustic, hobbitesque like charm of the little cottage. As did the friendly ducks and chucks pottering around under the shady idyl just outside our back door. Every evening we made the most of our little table and chairs just out front. It was so private and serene with just the crickets and the flickering candles. We hired a car which is must and spent a day visiting gorgeous nearby chateaux on the Dordogne but equally enjoyed chilling out on white-sand idylic beach on the lake just 30 minutes drive away where children could paddle in safely and there were free kayaks to try. I'm a real beach-lover so to find a wonderful beach that rivalled anything I've been to on the coast was such a plus. I so recommend La Planche; I have a rule that I never go back to the same place twice, no matter how lovely but I think this year is going to have to be the exception because I can't imagine anywhere more lovely for this kind of price and with such lovelyowners who felt more like friends than hosts.

The Cottage was a breath of fresh air. Clean, roomy and everything provided. To see the Log burner alight in the evening was a picture. Every help was provided by Jane and Jeff and are very friendly hosts. We are a sixties couple who enjoyed every minute of our stay at Owl cottage. Patrick and Sandra. Thank you Jane and Jeff, would recommend the cottage to anyone.

Relaxing places attract all the clichés about ”Winding Down”, “Recharging the Batteries”, “Switching
off” etc., but Barefoot Cottage shows it’s possible to be relaxed and stimulated at the same time.
Set in beautiful wooded countryside, the hamlet of Planche isn’t even on some of the maps and
it left my SatNav baffled. However, the surrounding hills and villages abound with waymarked
walks, medieval villages and breathtaking views. Riberac is only a few minutes away with its shops,
restaurants and the biggest market in the area - and probably far beyond. The Dordogne is also close
enough to make an easy excursion on traffic-free roads. The owners, Jane and Jeff, were very helpful
and felt like old friends within minutes of meeting them. Their menagerie of two dogs, a cat, two
ducks and a chicken (with two girl-friends in attendance), are equally friendly.
Barefoot Cottage itself is eccentric, quirky, creative, fun – and fully equipped! My wife laughed with
joy at the sheer character of the place, immediately called it “home” and for the first holiday ever
was reluctant to leave it. I managed to take home about 2,000 photographs which I think proves my

Last year we stayed at Planche, we enjoyed the peace and quiet, the woodland and
the nature. Our children spent hours exploring the field and surrounding woods
and pathways. The younger ones enjoyed playing in the wendy house, complete with
sky light, cooker and tree trunk chairs outside and they found the best hiding

Our holiday, set in the beautiful valley of Planche.
This is a peaceful and idylic place to stay. The house is spacious and very comfortable and has a
wealth of charm. Sitting in the garden eating breakfast and dinner is a memory I
will always have, it is so beautiful. The children loved it, they could play for
hours in the garden and be completely safe. The lakes were fantastic!

I liked my holiday because of this huge room with a tree in the middle, well a
post with beams, it was the room where the owl lived before, so its called hibou
which means owl.
The cafes were cool!
They had WIFI!
